    Day 25

I got up early and rode my bike five miles. Being on the streets, you get to see all of the people walking, jogging, running. There were a few out biking like me and some at the tennis courts at the park near my home. It was nice seeing people moving their bodies and I got an extra joy seeing many from the Global Majority.

There are so many very good reasons why we don’t work out. Some of us are working a couple of jobs. Some are starting businesses. Some have children or parental responsibilities. You don’t have time in the mornings and when you get home, you’re tired.

Over the last 25 days, I have had quite a few nights when I got home and all I wanted to do was go to bed. But I looked at my Vivofit and I had 2,000 or 3,000 or 5,000 (this only happened once because it was too many steps to put in so late), to go and had to hit the treadmill or bike to reach my goal of 10,000 steps for the day.

It would have been have easy to go bed because I really was tired and I really do need my rest. But I can honestly say, getting in those steps have served me better than an extra hour of sleep or rest.

I have five more days of this challenge and I have 10 pounds to go. I didn’t lose the weight at the rate I expected. In my 20s and 30s, I could lose a pound a day with no struggle. That’s not the case now and I’m okay with that, too. Heck, it took three months to put on 15 pounds. I have shaved off 10 of those pounds and who knows what will happen over the next five days.

What I do know is that I’m going to continue after the 30 days. These 10,000 steps are now a staple of my daily routine. I’m thinking about taking it up to 15,000. I will be getting in at least 10 days at the gym coupled with working out at home or biking in the neighborhood. And this will be for the rest of my life.

How’s it going for you? Let me see your #30Days in Twitter.
