    30-Day Challenge

    Days 8, 9 and 10

Every night around 9 p.m. I look at my Vivofit only to see that I have barely put in 5000 of my 10,000 steps for the day. I promised myself daily that I would be more conscious and have at least 7,000 steps done by the time I got home from New York. But it hasn’t been so easy.

Before this challenge, I rarely made it to 7,000 steps. It would be really easy to say to myself, “Heck, you’re doing more than you’ve ever done, so give yourself a break,” or “You can take off one night, you earned it.” Nope! A goal is a goal. I am committed to 10,000 steps a day, no matter how tired, no matter what hurts, no matter what.

Day 9, my knee was bothering me. So I did seven miles on the bike. The problem with the bike is that it doesn’t count steps the same way as the treadmill or walking in the park. But it’s less stress on my knees. I just have to stay on there longer.

Day 10, I had lost two whole pounds. This felt like a breakthrough because I was losing 0.2 pounds zero pounds over the last week. I feel that I have reached my tipping point. I have focused a lot on my diet. It’s been oatmeal with fruits and nuts every morning and a salad for dinner. Tonight I had an arugula, kale, black-eye peas and pickled onion salad from Whole Food’s bistro. And I had a bunch of cherries for dessert.

I may not post every day, but I am tracking progress daily and I have posted all of my steps to show my 10,000 (even the day when I had to stay up past midnight to get in it). No excuses (my mantra).

This is a marathon, not a sprint. I can’t remember doing something physical for this many days in a row without taking a break and I feel good. How has your first 10 days been? Let me know on Twitter with #30Days so I can check in. Thanks for joining me!
