Now that 2020 is closing out, it’s time to set some resolutions for 2021 regarding your health.
Although we’re still in the throes of Covid-19, where people have lost loved ones, lost jobs, lost businesses, lost homes, etcetera, there is still a way to break through and regain your health and fitness if you’ve lost that too.
Years ago, I developed an exercise routine for people to kickstart their exercise regimens that have now morphed into the 8-Minute Exercise Method. If you’re middle-aged and you have lost your focus during the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s a simple strategy to get on track and kickstart your fitness routine for 2021.
There are seven bodyweight exercises to master, such as squats, planks and crunches, that provide the foundation for most other workouts that you do. Simply select one of those exercises to focus on for the day. Every hour do one set of that exercise, with a predetermined number of repetitions.
For instance, if you want lower body power and mobility, do one set of squats every hour. For upper body power and mobility, do one set of pushups every hour. Any exercise will do, depending on what part of your body you would like to work on. This method works perfectly for those working at home. It builds a rhythm that seamlessly fits into an 8-hour working day. All you must do is set your phone alarm to ring every hour and get to work. I’ve been using this method for years. It’s easy, efficient, effective and even entertaining.
Feel free to pick an exercise from my list The 7 Exercises to Master.
As a suggestion, take one exercise per day to get started and do 10 to 20 repetitions. Even less if that makes you comfortable. You’re not training for competition. The 8-Minute Exercise Method is just a kickstart. If you pile on too many repetitions, you may burn out after a couple of sets and get discouraged. Focus on form and habit formation, and you will make significant gains.
If Covid-19 has beaten you down in 2020, now is the time to resurrect. Resolve to make 2021 your year to get on track and stay on track, one minute at a time!
