Clarkson is the first NBA player of Filipino descent since Raymond Townsend played for the the Warriors in the 1970’s. Clarkson, whose biological mother is Filipino, was unheralded coming out of Missouri in 2014 draft —waiting until the second round before being acquired by the Lakers in a trade with the Wizards.
The 6-foot-3 combo guard exceeded expectations in his first year in Los Angeles. He was named to the All-Rookie first team after averaging just under 12 points per game. Clarkson has proven to be a potent scorer off the bench in his first five seasons in the league. He made his first NBA Finals appearance with the Cavaliers in 2018. Clarkson is posting a career-best 17 points per game this season.
