Coming off the heels of Yao Ming’s successful debut in the NBA, expectations were high when the Bucks drafted Jianlian with the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft. The 7-foot forward showed flashes of greatness in his five-year NBA career but never lived up to the hype.
His best year came in an injury-shortened season with the Nets in 2010. Yi started 51 games with New Jersey and posted seven 20+ point performances. He also averaged a career-high 12 points per game during the season.
Jianlian was out of the league by 2012, but attempted to make a comeback with the Lakers in 2016. He was cut after making a few preseason appearances. Jianlian now plays with the Guandong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association and the Chinese National team.
