The Rise of the “Righteous Whites” and the Collapse of Plausible Deniability

Lurie Daniel Favors used a recent segment of her SiriusXM Urban View show to argue that more white Americans are speaking clearly about racism and political extremism.

Daniel Favors credited the term “righteous whites” to Feminista Jones, describing it as white people “willing to use their privilege and power to make the world a better place” or “buck the system.”

To make her point, Daniel Favors played a social media video from a white man warning that the United States is living through an unresolved conflict rooted in the Civil War.

“The Civil War was never fully resolved,” the speaker said, claiming the country is facing “the South versus the Union all over again” and suggesting Americans should acknowledge that reality. The speaker also claimed “ICE behaves like the police department,” and linked modern policing to slave patrols, calling the current moment “Civil War part two.”

Daniel Favors said the video’s prediction did not convince her.

“I don’t actually know if that last part is true,” she said, referring to the claim that the U.S. is “more than likely” headed for civil war. But she argued it was still “something worth thinking about.”

The radio host then played a second clip featuring white men in Minneapolis, condemning racist violence and state power.

In one clip, a speaker alleged Indigenous people were being targeted and said authorities “move around in roving bands and decide who belongs and who doesn’t at will with no oversight.” Daniel Favors praised the anger and clarity.

“I love a good white ‘What the (expletive) is that?’ guy,” she said. “I love it when the whites get upset.”

She said white Americans have a responsibility to confront the systems they benefit from. “This is your issue. This is your fault. This is your problem,” she went on. “Whether you are a beneficiary willfully or a beneficiary begrudgingly, this is something y’all people created.”

Daniel Favors added that more white people should have challenged Donald Trump’s repeated claims that civil rights-era policies harmed white Americans, and she criticized media narratives that treat “reverse discrimination” as an undisputed fact.
