The sweet shooting combo guard was the star of Kansas’ 1993 Final Four team. The momentum from Walters’s impressive tournament run helped him get drafted 16th overall by the New Jersey Nets during the Summer.
Walters, who’s half white, half-Japanese, was primarily a reserve during his nine seasons in the NBA. Along with the Nets, Walters also suited up for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat. In 1996, Walters had a career-high 27 points against the Celtics.
After his playing days, Walters spent 10 seasons as a college head coach at Florida Atlantic and San Francisco. He had a brief stint as a Pistons assistant and head coach of its development team. Walters went back to the college ranks to join the staff at Nevada.
