    (Ages 5 – 8)

This awesome story perfectly captures the pure happiness of those carefree summer days. It starts on the very last day of school when a bunch of energetic students burst out into their Brooklyn neighborhood, excited to rule their block throughout the upcoming weeks.

The story’s lively text practically begs to be read out loud, and the vibrant illustrations beautifully showcase the joy that summer brings.

by Breanna J. McDaniel, illustrated by Shane W. Evans

    $16 – Buy

    (Ages 4 – 8)

This cute picture book turns a usually intense phrase into something positive. It tells the tale of a young Black girl who raises her hands for hugs in school and during church service. The story reaches its peak at a community protest march, where everyone around her raises their hands in resistance. It’s a timely and impactful read.

by Ana Siqueira, illustrated by Carlos Vélez Aguilera

    $18 – Buy

    (Ages 3 – 7)

Miguel’s life is a complete mess, all because of La Mala Suerte, also known as Mrs. Bad Luck. She’s been tailing him ever since he made the mistake of opening an umbrella indoors. His grandma tried to warn him, but he didn’t pay attention. Now, he’s flunking tests, stumbling all over the place, and can’t catch a break during soccer practice.

However, there’s still a glimmer of hope!

In this enormously fun picture book, filled with playful words and a sprinkle of Spanish, Miguel discovers that he has the power to create his own luck.

This book is all about civil rights giant John Lewis and his early years on a farm in southern Alabama. Before he became an activist, John actually wanted to be a preacher when he was older. As a kid, his family’s farm was like his church, and he had a flock of 60 chickens as his congregation.

The story is filled with great messages about hard work, love, kindness, and finding your voice.

    It’s definitely worth checking out!
