Kanye, Take Us Out the Chat

I promised myself I would not talk about Kanye West ever again, but I was totally unprepared for his latest tweet, and I can only imagine the misery that everyone who lives around him endures.

When he wore the Black Klan outfit, I was sure that his antics could get no worse, beyond something criminal. Still, wow—in true Kanye fashion—he continues to think outside the box, too far outside it, though.

In a tweet that is still available, as of this sad Earth Day, Kanye admits to having an underage, incestual relationship with his cousin. While the revelation is indeed sad, it is the matter in which not only he writes about, but the fact that he has left it open for either further interpretation and fodder, and has made it his newest marketing tool. Now, far be it for me to tell someone that they should not make art about their trauma, but please, please, please, leave some things in the draft.

On April 21, Kanye released a new song, which he titled “COUSINS,” and the reasoning why is not a simple track that is about the bond between relatives, but something much more sinister.

The tweet, posted before his rant about wanting custody of his children, reads:

Kanye said so much and said so little at the same time, and while he opened the door into his world even wider, he left more questions in his wake. He does not give his age, nor does he say how many years is a few years, only that he gave his cousin those magazines when his cousin was six—but does not reveal his age—and that he fellated his cousin until he was 14.

This is an unfortunate occurrence that happens in many families were many young children are exposed to sexuality—even if accidentally—and without knowledge of the harm they are causing, expose their fellow young family members to it, with both parties lacking the nuance and understanding that they may be able to disassociate from the heaviness of their actions but they may have a psychological effect on them later on down the line.

Because they were both apparently underage and Kanye does not reveal the age difference between him and his cousin, the lines of molestation and exploration, albeit unfortunate among children is blurred.

Another big issue with his post was his wording of sucking his “cousin’s dick.” It is reductive and dismissive to the potential trauma, which is cousin seemed to endure, while he rose to superstardom. Maybe there is survivor’s remorse, but either way, it seems like they have both lost things because of it.

It is doubtful that making a song about it will help, but who knows.

Since that tweet, Kanye has also made several posts about not having custody of his children, and the fact that he is unable to see the disconnect is concerning, but that’s just something else to add to the list.

There is necessary healing needed in Kanye’s life, and here’s to hoping that he will do this off the internet.

All that money—he should probably invest in some help.
