Gauff Possesses a Unique Skill Set
Gauff has all of the technique, athleticism and skill level to be a big-time player for years to come. Jeff Bingo, the general manager at the Delray Beach Tennis Center where Gauff trains, describes the teen as a “specimen.”
Her trainer Nick Savino says Gauff possesses “tremendous physical attributes in terms of her strength, power, speed and agility.” Savino says Gauff has one of the best serves in the world. The combination of power and spin on her forehand and two-handed backhand also makes her a dangerous opponent.
Patrick Mouratoglou, who worked with her at his academy in France and has mentored Serena Williams, agrees that Gauff’s athletic gifts give her a distinct advantage among most of her peers.
She’s very special and has the two major qualities that you cannot teach,” Mouratoglou told UBI Tennis. “First of all, she is a great competitor. That is something very difficult to teach. Secondly, she’s a natural athlete. You can build (a player) physically, but natural athleticism is something you have or don’t have.”
