She comes from a sports family
Athletic genes run strong through the Gauff family. Her father, Corey, played basketball at Georgia State, where he played guard and averaged just under eight points per game as a senior.
Meanwhile, her mother, Candi, participated in gymnastics and was a five-time Florida high school champion heptathlete before starring in track and field at Florida State University.
Gauff’s father also played tennis growing up in Florida and says his daughter was a natural when she attended her first tennis camp at age 6.
“She took to it,” Corey told ESPN. “She liked the skirts.”
