An Alabama judge has been removed from office after being accused of racist, sexually inappropriate behavior.
Randy Jinks was elected as an Alabama county probate judge in 2018 before taking office in 2019. He oversees elections in Talladega county.
After reviewing the evidence, a nine-member Alabama Court of the Judiciary found that he violated five judicial ethics rules, including failing to uphold the integrity and independence of the court system.
“I can’t even afford a car like that, and I’m the judge here,” Jinks told a Black employee, according to a complaint filed against the judge in March. “What are you doing? Selling drugs?” The report alleges that Jinks stated that George Floyd was “just another thug” and “got what he deserved” after Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin murdered him.
Jinks also mouthed the “n-word “when referring to Black people, including during Black Lives Matter demonstrations. He told a deputy clerk that Black people are the only ones who receive assistance from the government “because of the color of their skin,” the complaint said.
In a recorded conversation, Kinks is heard saying: “Y’all got to quit burning sh*t down’ because ‘you will need something to burn down after Trump gets elected to a second term, sons of b*tches.”
The former judge denied the allegations, including complaints that he shared sexually inappropriate videos and made crude comments about the appearance and anatomy of women.
“I’m not saying I haven’t made a few errors along the way,” he told WOIL. “But the overwhelming majority of these very vicious and vile and vulgar accusations are false.” His lawyer released a statement to media outlets saying his remarks were taken “completely out of context.” He is expected to appeal the decision.
