    Kirk’s #GoVeggies 31-Day Challenge, Day 30: Stuck Thinking!

Many people have weird theories about food and exercise that cause them frustration and harm. It’s possible they want what’s best, but when it’s presented to them it’s often rejected.

I had a client who put all her faith in doctors. For years she suffered from a digestive autoimmune disease and she was constantly switching medications to “fix” it. Sadly, she was always mired in nauseating side effects. I told her many times that drugs don’t cure metabolic diseases, they just help you live with them. Also, I told her, that doctors really don’t know much at all about nutrition because they’re not required to.

Over time I got her to change her eating habits by eating more fruit and salad. She got immediate positive results, with no side effects.

However, she went back to her previous way of eating, thinking she would maintain those results. Of course, that didn’t happen. What perplexed me is that she refused to go back to the fruit and salad that produced positive results. She felt she must suffer with the drugs and side effects, with no dietary change, because the doctors must be right.

Oftentimes we get stuck in a mental modality that blinds us from the obvious. Doctors are necessary and many provide sound advice. Drugs are necessary in many cases, but not addressing eating habits is a travesty.

As a general rule, if you’re getting undesired results, it may be safe to assume you’re eating something undesirable to your digestive system that exacerbates disease. As obvious as that may be, for some reason many people can’t believe it. But believing how your body responds is critical for your health. Sometimes we must stop thinking to see the light.
