2. Where Is Eden?
Phirat is the Euphrates, which is located in what was once known as Persia and is now Iraq, Syria and Turkey. Gihon encompasses the entire area known then as Cush, which is Ethiopia or Africa. The Chidekel or the Tigres runs through the Taurus Mountain of Turkey. The Pishon has never been officially located, but some associate it with the Ganges River, which runs through Asia by way of Bangladesh. Others identify Pishon as the Nile, which runs through Egypt.
Locate these areas on a map. Today all of this is associated with what is called “The Middle East.” But thousands of years ago, this was all part of the continent of Africa (and of course, parts of Asia). None of these rivers flowed through Europe.
