The Hub Entertainment Watch List: America In Black

Being Black in America is an experience beyond worthy of being documented and a new BET series is looking to shed light on the culture and issues impacting the community. BET and CBS News teams joined forces to present, America In Black. It is a unique show in the sense that it is also a monthly newsmagazine that features interviews, celebrity profiles and in-depth investigative reporting.

The series was first announced on January 27 and premiered the following month on February 19. Alvin Patrick (CBS News) and Jason Samuels (BET) serve as the executive producers of America In Black. The series is told from a Black point of view as all of the presenters are members of the Black community. Viewers are able to hear from voices such as Marc Lamont Hill, Gayle King, Roy Woods Jr. and more.

“The monthly newsmagazine format allows us the ability to report in-depth on important stories that shape the culture of Black America,” noted Patrick when speaking on the series. Episode one of the series shows Marc Lamont Hill investigating the critical race theory bans in U.S. schools as well as a spotlight on Sheryl Lee Ralph and introduces a money-saving approach to police reform that is presented by Roy Woods Jr.

The series follows up with a conversation featuring Michael B. Jordan talks and conversations on the CROWN Act and the state of Black love.  Other topics include reparations activism, mental health issues affecting Black women, celebrating TV’s best moms and unnecessary amputations for Black Americans. America In Black makes sure to cover all bases by taping into stories of relevance to people of color and the information is presented in a way that is digestible for most viewers.

“Black storytelling is at the core of BET, and we couldn’t be more excited to present ‘America In Black,” noted BET executive Connie Orlando. Interested viewers can watch America In Black with access to BET and CBS platforms, including BET+ and the CBS News Streaming Network. Some stories will even be featured on various Paramount Global digital and social platforms. Viewers can tune in each month for the latest in Black news and culture.
