In an interview with TMZ’s Harvey Levin, Alex Trebek said he could see Laura Coates, host of The Laura Coates Show on SiriusXM Urban View, as host of the hit game show after he retires.
Trebek, who has hosted the hit game show since 1984 and who is signed to Jeopardy! through 2020, has had some health scares recently. In 2007, he had a mild heart attack. In 2011, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon chasing a robber at a San Francisco hotel. In 2012, he had another mild heart attack. And on January 4 of this year, it was announced that Trebek had fallen during the winter break of Jeopardy! and had surgery for a subdural hematoma.
Coates responded to the honor in a tweet:
Incredibly honored & humbled @Jeopardy Alex Trebek 1) knows who I am 2) thinks I’d be a great host of my fave game show ever that I grew up watching w/ my family & still watch w/ my own kids (who saw him say this & now think I’m a genius) #Dying https://t.co/qdMxWc9g5e via @TMZ
