The Hub’s Entertainment Watch List: Partners In Rhyme

Rap legend MC Lyte has taken her talents from the stage to the television with her new show, “Partners In Rhyme.” The veteran hip-hop artist is co-starring in the series alongside, Precious Way and the duo work together to find a common ground between older generations of hip-hop fans and younger fans.

The series is the brainchild of MC Lyte, Wayne Conley and Bentley Kyle Evans, who was the executive producer of Martin, The Jamie Foxx Show and a variety of other classic sitcoms. Precious Way landed the role after successfully standing out in self-tape submissions and virtual auditions. Following the submission process, she was chosen to perform live during Urban Movie Channel’s (UMC, now AllBlk) “Shoot Your Shot” opening night event and earned her leading role in the show.

Partners in Rhyme follows the work and personal relationship between MC Lyte’s character, Lana Crawford, and Precious Way’s character, “Luscious T.” Lana Crawford is Lucious T’s aunt and the manager of her budding career. In addition to managing the career of Luscious T, Lana must also work to pay off her newly discovered debt. The series kicks off with Lana being dropped as an artist from her label and then propositioned into guiding her niece’s career.

The duo clearly has different styles and tastes, as Luscious T is a new-aged Instagram rapper and Lana is more focused on lyricism and building a solid reputation. Throughout the show, viewers get to see both perspectives come head to head and the final result typically ends in a compromise and mutual understanding between the two stars.

Other important cast members include Lana’s best friend and assistant Victoria “Vicky” Sims who is played by Cloie Wyatt Taylor as well as her younger brother Mekhai Crawford, who is played by Ron G. Viewers are also introduced to the high-powered label executive responsible for the duo’s working-relationship, Hazel Wilson (Rolanda Watts), and the team’s engineer Boston Jacobs (Wesley Jonathan).

Potential viewers can binge-watch the first season, which consists of seven episodes, on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Fubo TV, or directly on AllBlk. Season two is expected to debut on October 13, 2022.
