On Thursday, UNC Charlotte officially introduced Kevin White to 49ers nation as the university’s new Director of Athletics.

“I am honored to join Charlotte at such an exciting time,” White said. “Charlotte has tremendous potential, strong institutional support, and a passionate fan base. I look forward to working with Chancellor Gaber, our coaches, staff, student-athletes, and supporters to build a championship-driven culture and position Charlotte Athletics for sustained success.”

White arrives in Charlotte with over 15 years of experience in college athletics administration.

After graduating from the University of North Carolina, he went on to earn a master’s degree at Georgia State and an MBA at Kennesaw State.

In 2009, after working in corporate America, he began his athletics administrative career at Georgia State before moving on to SMU as the Chief Operating Officer in 2014. In 2017, he left Texas to become the Chief Operating Officer at Northwestern until 2022, when he headed to Clemson to become its Deputy Director of Athletics.

Now the Tennessee native is headed back to the state of his Alma mater to take over the reins for the 49ers.

“Kevin has helped lead a standout athletics program at Clemson and brings the vision, energy and leadership necessary to elevate Charlotte 49er Athletics,” Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber said. “He understands what it takes to compete and succeed in today’s environment and has a proven ability to strengthen programs, build meaningful partnerships and position athletics departments for sustained growth. We are confident he is the right leader to help Charlotte reach the next level.”

White has the understanding and vision that Gaber and the university was searching for and recognized how he could change lives through the power of college athletics.

“I firmly believe athletics should reflect and advance the broader mission of the university,” White said. “At my core, the reason I do this comes down to purpose. When I was working in corporate America, I found myself asking, “What kind of impact am I really having?”
