This past weekend, the nation witnessed an unprecedented wave of “Hands Off!” protests, with millions rallying across all 50 states to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump’s and his advisor, tech tycoon Elon Musk’s policies.

Organized by a coalition of over 150 progressive groups, labor unions and civil rights organizations, these demonstrations marked one of the most significant coordinated protest efforts in recent history.

In Washington, D.C., over 100,000 demonstrators gathered near the Washington Monument, in a bid to protect democracy and the many key institutions the Trump administration is determined to bring to ruin.

Speakers such as Representatives Jamie Raskin and Maxwell Frost addressed the crowd, highlighting the need to protect civil liberties and social services.

Similar scenes unfolded in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Alaska, where thousands marched to express their vexation with the administration’s actions.

There were 1400 “Hands Off!” protests nationwide on Saturday, April 4th, all fueled by a spectrum of grievances, including mass layoffs of federal workers, cuts to health and social services, aggressive immigration enforcement and reduced protections for transgender individuals.

Many demonstrators were particularly critical of Musk’s role in implementing these policies through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), viewing his sway as representational of a “billionaire takeover” of the government.

Organizers made their demands crystal clear: “an end to the billionaire takeover and rampant corruption of the Trump administration; an end to slashing federal funds for Medicaid, Social Security, and other programs working people rely on; and an end to the attacks on immigrants, trans people, and other communities.”

“Americans are standing up to the administration as they implement Project 2025 at full speed,” Harris wrote on Saturday as the protests continued to make global news.

Today in every state across our nation, Americans are standing up to the administration as they implement Project 2025 at full speed.

Thank you for using your voices and the power of protest to stand for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; for the Department of Education…

    — Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) April 5, 2025

“Thank you for using your voices and the power of protest to stand for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; for the Department of Education and programs like Head Start; for clean air and water; for the right to make decisions about your own body without government interference. The voices of working people will always be louder than the unelected billionaires.”

The White House did issue a statement, but it did little to quell rising concerns about America’s leadership and the future of the country’s democracy.

“President Trump’s position is clear: he will always protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for eligible beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the Democrats’ stance is giving Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare benefits to illegal aliens, which will bankrupt these programs and crush American seniors.”

Trump’s recent implementation of sweeping tariffs on imports from numerous countries has led to significant turmoil in global financial markets, with major indices such as the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average experiencing substantial losses.

While the president remains in a place of denial (and or deluison) economists and financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, have raised the probability of a U.S. recession to a significant 60%, citing the potential for these tariffs to dampen economic growth and increase inflation.

The tariffs have provoked retaliatory measures from longtime trading partners, heightening fears of a lengthy trade war which could further destabilize the global economy.

The tariffs have had such a negative impact on the country, that even Musk has spoken out against them, telling The League Congress that he hopes to see a “zero tariff situation” between the U.S. and Europe.

Musk will step down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after his political meddling cost the Republicans the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. However, Trump is not usually receptive to being openly challenged and there is speculation that the close bond between Musk and Trump could be rapidly deteriorating behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, Trump seems hellbent on following through with his ominous plan.
