Over 1 Million New Yorkers Vote Early, Harris Continues Campaign

The city Board of Elections recently announced that over 1 million New Yorkers visited the ballots to put in their vote during this early election period.

According to state voter rolls, these numbers represent about a fifth of all voters, making up 20% of all registered voters across all five boroughs. As of 5 p.m. yesterday, the polls for the early voting period in New York are officially closed.

In counties such as Miami-Dade County, the Deputy Elections Supervisors have also announced record-breaking numbers for early voters, totaling 7.8 million voters across Florida.

The stage is now set for Election Day on Tuesday. After visiting the studios and making a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live, Vice President Kamala Harris made several stops throughout Michigan. Along with visiting a Black-owned barbershop in Pontiac, she spoke to supporters at a Detroit church.

“We were born for such a time as this. The road ahead won’t be easy,” said Harris, citing Psalm 30:5, per local news magazine The Detroit News. “But in times of uncertainty, we are reminded weeping may endure for the night but joy cometh in the morning. And, church, morning is on its way.”

Elsewhere, former president Barack Obama, Minnesota Gov., Harris’ running mate Tim Walz and first lady Jill Biden all held events campaigning on behalf of Harris. In Wisconsin, Obama spoke to undecided voters, urging them to back Harris. In his speech, he referred to past racist rhetoric spewed by Republican nominee Donald Trump and, like Walz, deconstructed the false promises Trump has made along the way in his campaign.

“It turns out, one of the reasons people think Donald Trump will improve the economy is because they watched ‘The Apprentice’ … So I want everybody to be clear, that was not reality,” said the former president per CNN. “That was a reality show. The truth is, Donald Trump was given $400 million by his daddy; that’s how he got rich.”

As of last night, according to the New York Times’ 2024 polls tracker, Harris is leading by a narrow margin, bringing in 49% of the votes compared to Trump’s 48%.

She is also leading in several battleground states. Along with Michigan and Wisconsin, an Iowa poll found that Harris has won a majority of the support in Iowa, a state Trump previously won twice.

As of now, Harris leads 47% to 44% against Trump amongst likely voters in Iowa, marking a drastic change since September, when the state was most likely to vote red.
