Today officially marks Election Day.
Although millions across the country have already voted during the early voting period, it is officially the last day to vote for the next U.S. President.
As election anxiety sets in, here are five Election Day events to attend for your own self-care and to find out the results of the 2024 Presidential race.
- Election Day Self-Care Room: Held by online space Therapy for Black Girls, this free event provides Black women and girls with an event to ease anxiety about the results of this year’s election. Designed to get rid of all stress, the Election Day Self-Care Room costs $7 to attend and is scheduled to be held on Zoom. Activities offered include journaling, discussions about feelings, an improv workshop, meditation and guided yoga.
- Election Watch Party: Held by divisions of the nonprofit American Constitution Society, the event brings together law students across the country. With events scheduled in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and more, the American Constitution Society’s Election Watch Party will not only feature a screening of live election results but also a variety of games to ease anxiety about the results. The three-hour event will also have conversations on election issues.
- Election Night Singing Circle: Hosted at Orange Door Collaborative in Cambridge, the event helps people destress through song, encouraging call-and-response, vocal improv and meditation to help people deal with election anxiety. The Election Night Singing Circle will initially offer attendees 30 minutes of meditation with another 30 minutes of song on blankets, yoga mats and cushions. A “poll checker” will offer updates on election results as well. The cost of the event will range from $5 to $20 based on how much an attendee is willing to donate.
- Election Night Viewing Party: The Reginald F. Lewis Museum, created in honor of the first African-American to create a billion-dollar company, will be hosting an Election Night watch party. Scheduled to be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the event is free to attend for anyone interested. Everyone who attends will be provided with food and drinks as poll results roll in and get reported.
- Karson Institute’s 2024 Presidential Election Watch Night Party: Created in partnership with UMBC’s School of Public Policy, Short Kuts and Mission Fit, the Karson Institute will be hosting an election watch party in Baltimore at the Loyola Notre Dame Library. Along with election results, their Presidential Election Watch Night Party will also provide attendees with food, games and storytelling. Although the event is free, registration is required for those who would like to attend.
