Marvel Releases Concept Art for ‘Blade’ Video Game

Marvel recently shared a first look at their newest video game featuring the superhero Blade.

Earlier this month, the video game company released a trailer for the game at The Game Awards 2023 ceremony. Now, the developers have released the concept art for the game.

Featuring the superhero as the titular character, it’s set in a quarantined area of Paris in the midst of a supernatural outbreak as vampires have taken over the city. Described as a single-player, third-person game, players are expected to be able to play as Blade as the superhero wards off the vampires that have inhabited Paris.

Currently in development by Arkane Lyon and Bethesda Softworks with creator Dinga Bakaba as the Game Director, the release of the video has yet to be announced but is expected to be released in or after late 2025.

It may be released in conjunction with Marvel’s newest Blade movie reboot. Slated for Nov. 7, 2025, Marvel’s Blade Movie will feature actor Mahershala Ali as the superhero alongside a supporting cast of Derlroy Lindo, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre and Kit Harrington.

“From his trench coat to his iconic sunglasses, Blade is a slick, stylish, and driven character,” said the Co-Creative and Art Director of Arkane Lyon, Sebastien Mitton, per a public statement released by Marvel. “This project is the perfect opportunity to push Arkane’s art style into an even more modern and bold territory. The essence of our work lives at the junction of impactful ideas and innovative know-how.”

Created in 1973, Blade is one of the first few Black superheroes to be featured in Marvel. Initially introduced as a supporting character in The Tomb of Dracula, his appearance made him the tenth Black superhero to join the Marvel universe.

Although he was given his own solo storyline in 1974, Blade became a prominent Marvel character in the 90s with the release of  “Ghost Rider” and his first-color comic series “Blade the Vampire Hunter.”

The success of the comic books translated onscreen with the release of “Blade,” a 1998 film about the superhero featuring Wesley Snipes. Spanning three movies, the release of the films made Blade the first superhero in Marvel history to have a trilogy.

Featuring Snipes as the face of the character and modeled after the movie, a video game was released in 2000.

Similar to the upcoming game, it featured Blade as a vampire hunter making his way across various locations to defeat the creatures.
