Usher is still the talk of the town following his Super Bowl halftime show and the singer is not wasting a second of the post-performance buzz, announcing his plans to develop a drama television series based on his music.
After more than three decades in the business, the star has partnered with UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, to produce the show.
According to Variety, the show focuses on “Black love in Atlanta and individuals looking to find a place to call home,” and it “will explore music, style, sex, romance, and secrets that threaten to tear relationships apart.”
“My 30-year catalog has resonated with so many people no matter where they were in their lives,” Usher said in a statement. “I’m happy to be working with UCP to bring the music to life. I hope the series resonates with you the way my music continues to.”
Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, Katie Zucker and Kenny Meiselas will all serve as executive producers on the project.
Just last week, the Grammy-winning artist and his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Goicoechea, tied the knot in Las Vegas. The couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Sovereign Bo, in 2020. The following year, they welcomed their son, Sire Castrello.
Usher also shares two sons, Usher V and Naviyd Ely, with his ex-wife, Tameka Foster.
Usher’s two-year “My Way: The Las Vegas Residency” helped thrust the star back into the global spotlight and he’ll be hitting the road this summer for his 24-city next tour, “Past Present Future” which kicks off on August 20 in Washington, DC.
