Estée Lauder announced a three-year-long partnership with poet and activist Amanda Gorman.
Gorman, who made history when she became the first inaugural poet in U.S. history, now has the title of Global Changemaker and Curator of the new “WRITING CHANGE” literacy initiative by Estée Lauder.
Gorman announced the news on her Instagram page.
“I am so proud to announce my partnership with one of the most iconic beauty brands in the world, @esteelauder to bring a new voice to beauty as their first-ever Global Changemaker!,” she writes.
She says that she will work with the brands “to inspire change, beginning,” and adds that the Estée Lauder Companies “will contribute $3 million to support The Writing Change initiative, helping to advance literacy as a pathway to equality, access and social change.
In February, she told Vogue for a May cover story that she had turned down roughly $17 million in promotional opportunities.
“I didn’t really look at the details,” she said, “because if you see something and it says a million dollars, you’re going to rationalize why that makes sense […] I have to be conscious of taking commissions that speak to me.”
And Estée Lauder’s initiative spoke to her.
“It will support grassroots organizations dedicated to literacy both locally and globally,” her statement concludes. “Together we will advance equality and social impact through supporting literacy globally. I can’t wait for us to get started!”
This is just the beginning.
Gorman recently revealed her plans to run for president in 2036.
“I think to make the impossible more proximate, you have to treat it as if it’s in reaching distance,” told People Gorman, later adding, “I’ve always understood the potential of the presidency or political office to both be terrific and also toxic and terrible.”
