Whoopi Goldberg Addresses the Overturning of Roe v. Wade: ‘This Is Not a Religious Issue, This Is a Human Issue’

Whoopi Goldberg has spoken out against the Supreme Court’s leaked draft, overturning Roe v. Wade.

According to an initial draft majority opinion penned by Justice Samuel Alito.

According to POLITICO, Alito writes, “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” he continued. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

Roe v. Wade was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court found that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion without disproportionate government regulation.

Goldberg does not agree with the Court’s decision:

“Women in this country lived forever with it being illegal, okay?” she said. “Women, when they decide that something is not right for them, they’re going to take it into their own hands. Well, we got tired of tripping over women in bathrooms, public bathrooms, who were giving themselves abortions because there was nowhere safe, nowhere clean, nowhere to go. This law came about because people wanted people to have somewhere safe and somewhere clean. It has nothing to do with your religion. This is not a religious issue, this is a human issue.”

.@WhoopiGoldberg: "Getting an abortion is not easy. Making that decision is not easy. It's not something people do lightly."

"If you don't have the wherewithal to understand that … then you're not looking out for me as a human being … and that is not okay." pic.twitter.com/u1DPPSp0Zm
