Tr**p’s fascist and discriminatory policies continue to trickle over to sports, now impacting a little league team from Venezuela.
On Friday, Little League International confirmed that the Cacique Mara Team from Venezuela were denied visas into the U.S. and will miss this year’s Senior Baseball World Series.
“The Cacique Mara Little League team from Venezuela was unfortunately unable to obtain the appropriate visas to travel to the Senior League Baseball World Series,” said Little League International in a statement. “It is extremely disappointing, especially to these young athletes.”
The team was supposed to participate in the tournament based in South Carolina after defeating the Santa Maria de Aguayo team from Mexico to win the Latin American championship.
Since his return to the White House, Tr**p has pushed his discriminatory and racist immigration enforcement policies out across the nation with full stream, focusing on Black and Brown communities, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.
We had warned previously that sports would not be immune in his era of retribution, and we’ve seen it become more apparent in his six months in office.
In April during the men’s Final Four, visas for South Sudanese passport holders were revoked by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which put a strain on Duke freshman and South Sudan native, Khaman Maluach, who was preparing to play Houston.
In June, the Senegal women’s national basketball team had to cancel a 10-day training trip to the U.S. after they were denied visas by this administration.
Earlier that month, the Department of Homeland Security, in a since-deleted social media post, announced they would be present at FIFA World Cup Club games across the country.
“Let the games begin,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection posted and then deleted. “The first FIFA Club World Cup games start on June 14 in Miami, FL at the Hard Rock Stadium. CBP will be suited and booted ready to provide security for the first round of games.”
Earlier this month, the Cuban women’s volleyball team was denied visas to participate in a tournament in Puerto Rico as the country, like Venezuela, is on Tr**p’s list of countries banned from traveling to the U.S. due to “national security concerns.”
“They told us that Venezuela is on a list because Trump says Venezuelans are a threat to the security of his state, of his country,” said Kendrick Gutiérrez, the league’s president in Venezuela. “It hasn’t been easy the situation; we earned the right to represent Latin America in the World Championship.”
This is another harsh reminder of how Tr**p is shaping the U.S. into a discriminatory country that seeks to stop the browning of the nation.
Now even a little league baseball team isn’t welcome because of racist politics.
