A Somali immigrant and Republican activist who campaigned for former President Donald Trump in 2024 said he is reconsidering his support following recent comments in which Trump criticized Somali communities in Minnesota.
In a now-viral clip, the man appealed directly to Trump, saying supporters “saw hope” in him and urging the former president to “differentiate between good, bad, and evil.” The voter featured in the clip revealed he had promoted Trump’s candidacy to millions and believed the former president would address issues such as affordability, crime and the opioid crisis.

Trump, speaking at a recent event, said he did not want Somali immigrants in the United States and referred to groups entering the country as “garbage,” remarks that drew criticism from community members and local officials.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said Trump’s rhetoric has led to harassment outside his home, including individuals using derogatory language. Walz called the behavior “shameful” and warned that hostile speech can escalate into violence.
