Karen Hunter has a theory about the current political moment, and during a recent episode of SiriusXM Urban View’s “The Karen Hunter Show,” Hunter unpacked a civic organizing video from political strategist Eljoy Williams called “Anger Is Not a Strategy.”
Hunter admitted she is furious about the current political climate, especially watching older Black Americans deal with a rollback of battles they already survived once.
“I’m angry for the people who are in their 70s and 80s who thought that they had litigated this already,” Hunter said. “They fought already to get us to a place and then we’re right back.”
But she also argued that endless outrage is exactly where Trump-era politics wants people trapped and Republicans benefit when communities stay emotionally exhausted instead of locally mobilized.
“Anger is the motivating ignition to some sort of action,” Hunter explained to her loyal listeners. “But as Eljoy pointed out, anger is not a strategy unto itself. Organizing is.”
Williams’ resolution was the surprisingly pragmatic idea of a “vote squad,” essentially a small neighborhood political team that checks voter registration, studies local races, and consistently pressures elected officials instead of panicking only every four years.
“It doesn’t have to be a squad of 100 or 50,” Hunter continued. “It could be a squad of 10. It could be a squad of five.” Hunter also reminded listeners that even MAGA politicians still technically work for the people yelling at them.
“You’re still their constituent,” she said. “Which means you can still press them.”
