The Entertainment Weekend Recap: August 28th

American sprinter Noah Lyles showed up and showed out with his performance at the World Athletics Championships. The star athlete even predicted his victory on social media earlier in the month. While the times listed were not spot on, Lyles posted “I will run 9.65 19.10,” to his fans on August 10. Now Lyles has become the first men’s sprinter to win 100m and 200m races since Usain Bolt. He also became the first American to win three straight 200m world titles since Tyson Gay in 2007.

While Noah Lyles was running his way to victory, popular personality Saucy Santana was running out of harm’s way. The rapper was spotted quickly moving away from an altercation that led to the arrest of three Love and Hip-Hop stars. Erica Mena, ZellSwag and Bambi Richardson were all arrested Friday night over involvement in a fight at a bar in Atlanta. According to the Fulton County Jail, all three individuals were charged with willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Erica Mena received two additional charges – simple battery and simple battery against a police officer. Zell received an additional charge of simple battery.

Saucy Santana explained in a video posted to social media that Mena was belligerent with security which resulted in the altercation. Santana made it clear that he does not get involved in drama and made his exit. He also noted that he bailed his partner Zell out following the altercation.

Singer and playwright Nicci Gilbert has been involved in a fight of her own with Starz and the creators of their hit series, P-Valley. Gilbert has previously called out Starz and P-Valley creators over copyright infringement. The Brownstone group member has argued that the series copied many aspects from her 2011 play, Soul Kittens Cabaret. The singer took to X (the platform formally known as Twitter) to announce that a copyright expert has determined that the show used much of her content without her consent.

“The Starz series ‘P-Valley’ uses an overwhelming number of elements taken directly from Ms. Gilbert-Daniel’s play/film ‘The Soul Kittens Cabaret,’ including plot, dialogue, setting, theme, characters, and mood,” noted the expert in the document. The expert says that the issue “should be allowed to progress through the normal legal process for these situations.” Starz has yet to comment on the expert’s opinion publicly.

Fellow actress and music artist Keke Palmer found herself back in the headlines this weekend after she was spotted on an outing with the father of her child, Darius Jackson. The duo have been the subject of public opinion in recent months after Jackson attempted to shame Palmer over an outfit choice. They seemed to have mended their issues as he took her out to celebrate her 30th birthday. Palmer turned even more heads when she released a photo of herself that revealed a tattoo that appeared to be of Jackson’s birth date. The exact status of their relationship at this time has not been confirmed publicly by either person.

With Keke Palmer’s business savvy, it is a bit of a surprise that she wasn’t a speaker at this year’s Invest Fest, but the event was filled with many other valuable voices. Invest Fest is billed as “a first-of-its-kind, in-person experience to combine investing, entrepreneurship, pop culture, and entertainment in a festival setting.” The event took place at Georgia World Congress Center from August 25 to 27. Attendees could hear from a lineup that included names such as Sean “Diddy” Combs, Robert F. Smith, Steve Harvey, Jeezy, Lala Anthony and Ari Fletcher. There was also a vendor marketplace that showcased over 400 small businesses.
