The Weekend Recap: False Allegations, Congratulations and Black Love

The Weekend Entertainment Recap: April 10th

The daughter of rap legend Lil Wayne, Reginae Carter, spent her weekend trying to shut down allegations of domestic abuse. The actress recently revealed that she injured her wrist on the set of her new movie. However, social media users began to accuse her boyfriend, Armon Warren, of causing the injury. Once social media put its twist on the allegations, Carter and Warren started to accuse the Rickey Smiley Morning Show of defamation – which was quickly refuted. Smiley posted audio of his team’s commentary and they did not accuse Warren of abuse.

Reginae has since stated that she would not disrespect Rickey Smiley and that she was not talking about him.

This weekend also witnessed a call between President Joe Biden and Angel Reese to congratulate her on LSU’s championship. President Biden’’s call comes after first lady Jill Biden suggested that both competing teams should be invited to the White House. Dr. Biden’s comments sparked outrage on social media, which ultimately led her to release another statement retracting her initial remarks. President Biden invited LSU to the White House, but a specific date for the visit has not been set at this time.

Congratulations are also in order for runner Sha’Carri Richardson after she won her first solo race of the 2023 track and field season. This is a historic win for the 23-year-old who dominated the 100-meter sprint at the 2023 Miramar Invitational on Saturday. Richardson finished with a time of 10.57 seconds.

The recorded time makes her the third-fastest 100-meter finish in all-time conditions. She comes behind Elaine Thompson-Herah (10.54 in 2021) and Florence Griffith-Joyner (10.49 in 1988).

Social media users are also praising female rap star, Trina, for her NPR Tiny Desk performance on Friday. The five-song performance featured “Da Baddest B-tch,” “Single Again,” “Here We Go,” and “Nann N****.” Trina also included “Mama,” which was dedicated to her late mother who died of cancer in 2019. The Miami native showed up and showed out in her diamonds and leather, ready to give a performance that showed why she is still making it after two decades in the rap industry.

Fellow female rap legend Nicki Minaj also caught social media’s attention this weekend. The Queen of the Barbz and her husband, Kenneth Petty, were full of Black love for his birthday. Minaj took to social media with a photo of the couple and let her husband know that she loved him. The couple first met when Minaj was a teenager and ended up reconnecting back in 2018. The two have since had a whirl-wind relationship consisting of a wedding, a child and legal woes.
