    Weekend Entertainment Recap: August 5th

From a long-awaited Young Money reunion to Nelly and Ashanti being spotted on stage together, concerts reigned supreme this weekend. Friday night Nelly, Ja Rule, Ashanti and others headlined the “My 2000s Playlist” concert in Oakland, California. While performing, Nelly brought Ashanti onstage with him, which was enough to get people talking about the duo who dated years back. Nelly also jokingly added, “I got floor seats to the next game,” causing some to speculate that he was taking aim at Irv Gotti’s recent Drink Champs interview.

Drake kept his word to Toronto fans which resulted in another appreciated reunion. The Toronto rapper put on a reunion show Saturday night with his old Young Money labelmates. Fans of Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Drake were able to see the trio reunite at Budweiser Stage to perform some of their greatest hits. Lil Wayne even announced that he will be releasing ‘Tha Carter VI’ while performing onstage.

Saturday night also proved to be important for “Sicko Mode” rapper Travis Scott. Scott made his first major headline performance since last year’s Astroworld tragedy. He opened up the show with “Hold That Heat,” and quickly got social media buzzing. The rapper was also joined by Kylie Jenner and their daughter Stormi. Scott followed up with another soldout show in London on Sunday.

While Travis, Stormi and Kylie were enjoying their weekend in London, her sister Kim Kardashian was dealing with a breakup. Kim Kardashian and Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson decided to separate after nine months of dating. Sources close to the couple told E! News that the two will move forward as friends due to their busy schedules and long distance.

Kim Kardashian parted ways with Pete while popstar Doja Cat parted ways with her hair. The singer and rapper debuted her new look after shaving her head and eyebrows. She started with the big chop on Thursday night and followed up with an Instagram live that showed the “Kiss Me More” singer removing her eyebrows with a razor. Doja Cat addressed the actions by stating, “I just do not like to have hair,” and continued on to express frustration with all of the maintenance surrounding hair. She posted a new photo on Instagram showing her hair-free with decorative eyebrows and it has received over 4 million likes.

YouTuber Jackie Aina also garnered attention this weekend, but it was not for a new look. She came under fire for naming a candle after a Nigerian protest slogan. The makeup guru used the Yoruba phrase “Sòro Sókè,” which means “Speak louder,” as a name for one of her new candles. The phrase is used in protests against police brutality in Nigeria and critics accused the Nigerian American YouTuber of trying to profit off the movement. She has since apologized for the candle, noting that the company “missed the mark” and the candle will be “pulled from the market.”

Another case of missing the mark occurred between Mike Tyson and the streaming platform Hulu. The platform will debut Mike, a limited series about his life, starring Trevante Rhodes on August 25. Tyson claimed that Hulu “stole my life story,” and did not consult with the boxer about it. He added that he was not involved in the project nor was he compensated financially.  Tyson took to social media to criticize the streamer and made an Instagram post on Saturday in which the caption stated, “Hulu is the streaming version of the slave master.” This is now the second time he has called the company out over the series.
