Morgan State canceled its homecoming football game after a shooting on campus earlier this week that injured five people.
University president David Wilson announced that the game Saturday against Stony Brook and all other homecoming events and classes for the remainder of the week were canceled due to “the most unfortunate of events that occurred on our campus.”
“Please understand that the safety of our campus is of the utmost importance and our resolve in ensuring that we have a secure campus is paramount,” Wilson wrote in a letter to the school community. “We strongly believe that this moment calls for reflection, thus allowing our students, faculty and staff the opportunity to focus on their mental wellness.”

With over 9,000 students, Morgan State is the largest HBCU in Maryland.
Campus police reported that the patrol heard gunfire around 9:25 p.m. on Tuesday night. When they went to investigate, they discovered several shooting victims. All of the victims were aged between 18 and 22. They were rushed to hospital to be treated for their non-life-threatening injuries.
“We know there was more than one person with a weapon, but the problem is ballistics has to tell us how many guns were shot,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said at a news conference. “One individual was a target of two individuals who had weapons. We don’t believe that individual was hit.”
Baltimore police released a video late Wednesday night showing several individuals walking across a campus lawn.
