Younger folks have unbelievable energy. I always recommend working out with them to keep you young. It’s a challenge and it keeps everything in perspective. They remind you of some of the things you were able to do in your younger days that may have ceased as you started creeping up in age.
But many of those things you can still do with a disciplined effort!
My recommendation is to find someone two-thirds your age. If you’re 50 years old, someone around 34 or 35 is just perfect. When I engage in an exercise battle with one of them, just keeping up is oftentimes a great challenge.
My younger friends run and jump like gazelles, so attempting to outdo them is usually an exercise in futility. But, the greatest asset that I have is plant-based eating. In the documentary “The Game Changers,” professional athletes talk about the quicker recovery time they experience from consuming fruits and veggies. In addition, they experience less inflammation and heal from injury at a faster rate.
One of the concerns older folks have regarding exercising with younger folks is getting hurt. I have pulled muscles trying to give just a little extra effort when I haven’t prepared properly.
If you include stretching, rest, water and plant-based eating into your health/exercise regimen, you’ll greatly reduce the odds of injury. Also, don’t try to do too much too soon. Take your time and progress at a slow, steady rate and you’ll remain younger much longer.
