Robert Beck was expelled from Tuskegee University for bootlegging. His mother, who owned a beauty salon in Chicago, encouraged her son to go back to school and pursue a law degree but he was so enamored with the pimps and the hustlers that he chose that life instead. Pimp is billed as Beck’s memoir and it is the bible of pimping—complete with not just the life and culture, but the language and the rules of the pimp game.
