President Joe Biden is expected to meet with Democratic Governors Pritzker, Newsom and more to discuss his mental fitness for reelection after his debate performance last week.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said “First of all, I want to say, we understand the concerns. We get it… We’re not taking away from what the American people saw.”
This crackdown comes from the public and members from both Democratic and Republican parties, who were shocked by his strong coughs and struggled to communicate against former President Donald Trump.
Some audiences acknowledged how the debate made the nation look.
“Both candidates are well-known, and this debate didn’t offer new insights. The event was cynical and damaging to our country,” said Alison, a program manager from Seattle who will be supporting an independent candidate in this election.
The White House has been calming their donors down ever since the event. The pressure increased as some officials had changed their minds on Biden’s campaign over his health.
On Tuesday, a Democratic member was the first to ask Biden to drop out of the election. In hopes of changing the public’s perspective, the White House announced that Biden will appear in two important public events: an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, airing partly on Friday and a solo news conference during the NATO summit in Washington next week.
Biden is aware of his situation and privately spoke to an ally on Tuesday about his chances to save his reelection bid.
The White House has denied reports of Biden’s private and uncertain reelection acknowledgment.
