Marian Washington
Washington was hired as the head coach of Kansas in 1974. She would spend 31 years as the head woman in Lawrence — winning seven conference championships and making 16 postseason appearances.
She was also the first black woman to coach a U.S. national team when she helped the 1996 squad win a gold medal as an assistant coach. Washington was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004.
