The sequel to Marvel’s hit superhero film Black Panther is slated to begin filming in July, as multiple sources told The Hollywood Reporter.

Filming for ‘Black Panther 2’ was originally scheduled to begin in March 2021, but was postponed by its filmmakers following the death of Chadwick Boseman, who made his debut as T’Challa in 2016. Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years prior to his passing in August, and never publicly spoke about his battle with the illness.

‘Black Panther 2’ is expected to be released in 2022, and many fans are now speculating who will take on the role of its titular character. Some have pointed to actress Letitia Wright, who portrayed T’challa’s younger sister, Shuri. The Hollywood Reporter states that the character “may take on a more prominent role.”

To many, Wright taking on the role of the Black Panther would be the best way to honor Boseman’s memory, rather than recasting a new T’challa.

The Hollywood Reporter also stated that ‘Black Panther’ stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett will be returning to their roles on the big screen.

The sequel is one of a number of projects currently in production by Marvel Studios, including additions to the Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor series’. Marvel is also preparing to release its exclusive Disney+ titles, like WandaVision, Loki, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
