Ashley Nicole Black, esteemed “Ted Lasso” writer-producer and “A Black Lady Sketch Show” writer and actress, has inked an overall deal with the. Warner Bros. Television Group.
According to THR, Black will create and produce programming for WarnerMedia’s HBO Max platform, streaming services and cable and broadcast outlets.
Black nabbed two Emmy nominations in 2021 in the outstanding writing for a variety series category, for both HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and Peacock’s “The Amber Ruffin Show.”
On “A Black Lady Sketch Show, on “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” Black plays a woman named Ashley — a complete control freak. her bossy ways grate on her friends.
In an interview with The New York Times, Black says she’s nothing like her on-screen persona. “I am not like that and take great pains not to be,” she said, “but it’s so much fun to play.”
“All day, you have anxiety. You’re trying to make sure everyone around you is comfortable,” she said of real life. “You’re thinking about what you say and what you do and how it affects people. And then, when you get to play those characters who aren’t that way, it’s so freeing.”
