Black-Owned Platform ‘MentalHappy’ is Making Mental Health Affordable

MentalHappy, Inc. is inviting 1,000 health and wellness professionals nationwide to join the MentalHappy movement.

Founded by Tamar Blue, a Black woman, MentalHappy is a “safe, affordable, online community that provides positive peer support groups led by health and wellness professionals,” equipping them with science-backed toolkits and other premium features.

Blue’s inspiration to create the platform was born out of her own personal struggles.

After leaving a “toxic relationship,” Blue suffered from severe anxiety and embarked upon an ongoing, personal journey to find happiness. This process involved countless hours of reading and researching mental health to teach herself how to heal.

“Creating and founding this amazing social network and community brought me back from my lowest moment and reinvigorated my drive,” she said in a September interview with Nasdaq. “My proudest moment so far has been getting accepted into Y Combinator, one of the most prestigious startup accelerator programs out there. Acceptance into YC validated the concept of MentalHappy for me, and gave me the confidence I needed to make my vision a reality.”

Leaders and coaches can host their groups on a secure network and directly with their members. The program allows hosts to use their own data, feature their products and earn income.

“We know that 100% of us experience difficult life events that take a toll on our emotional wellness – whether it’s loss, injury, a breakup or financial hardship. But not everyone has access to mental health care—and the recent isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has magnified individuals’ emotional health struggles. MentalHappy offers individuals—irrespective of race, gender or socioeconomic status— a positive place to turn in tough times,” Blue says in a statement.

For the time being, MentalHappy is offering zero initiation or membership fees for a limited time. MentalHappy also just closed a seed round of $1.1 Million dollars.
