The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology needed a full-time Athletic Director to lead their athletic department, so they turned to HBCU graduate, Ayanna Tweedy, to fill the job.

Earlier this week, Tweedy, a three-year track athlete for and graduate of Bowie State, was tabbed as the first full-time athletic director for the Indiana-based school, one of the nation’s leading NCAA athletic programs.

“I would like to humbly thank President Coons, Vice President Erik Hayes and the search committee for entrusting in me to serve this remarkable institution,” said Tweedy. “I am blessed and honored to join the Rose-Hulman family and I am excited about this transition. Tweedy’s resume made her the right person for the job for the DIII university that competes in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

After starring for Bowie both athletically and academically, Tweedy earned her master’s degree in higher education and administration from Southern New Hampshire University.

She then rose up the ladder in athletic administration, including as an assistant track and field coach at her alma mater, Bowie State. She then became the deputy Title IX coordinator at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, a combination of NCAA DIII institutions in California. There she helped manage policy implementation relating to student-athlete issues, assisted in compliance operations and helped manage game day events.
