The Stand by Stephen King
I read this book in high school and it literally scared the hell out of me. This is King’s take on Armageddon—good vs. evil, God vs. the devil. We know how the story ends, but King’s version, the ride is twisted and chilling. The scene in the Lincoln Tunnel was particular real because I travel through it daily and can imagine what would happen if the ish hit the fan while I was in it. (Note: I have not read this as an adult, so perhaps it’s not nearly as scary today given the world we are currently is not far off).
