How This Girlfriend’s New TV Show Is a Handbook on Living Life Your Way

Tracee Ellis Ross is packing her bags, ready to embark on new adventures. And she is taking viewers along on her journey with a new docuseries, Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross.

Debuting tomorrow on Roku as part of the Roku Originals lineup, this three-episode series follows the actress, entrepreneur and fashion queen as she ventures across the globe, exploring stunning destinations like Morocco, Spain and Mexico— all on her own.

The Girlfriends star has held a deep passion for solo travel for many years, making it a cherished aspect of her life.

“I took my first solo trip when I was 25 years old. I decided way back then that I wouldn’t wait to do the things I wanted to do or for my life to come to me,” she told Variety. “I’ve been solo traveling ever since, now there’s just a lot more luggage!”

As the episodes unfold, viewers will witness not just the stunning landscapes and vibrant cultures that Ross encounters, but also the profound personal growth that comes from stepping outside of one’s comfort zone. Each destination serves as a backdrop for her reflections on self-discovery, resilience and the power of solitude. In a world that often emphasizes the importance of connection with others, Ross beautifully illustrates how nourishing it can be to connect with oneself.

Her voyage is about more than just picturesque locales; it’s an invitation to all of us to step boldly into our own narratives. She encourages viewers to redefine what it means to travel alone, not as a sign of loneliness, but as a celebration of independence and self-love. “I don’t live my life for other people, I just totally live it for me,” she asserts, reminding us that our experiences can be as grand as we allow them to be.

As she shares her triumphs and challenges, Ross also emphasizes the importance of vulnerability. Her candid moments reveal that solo travel isn’t always glamorous; sometimes it’s about facing fears, overcoming obstacles and learning to appreciate the silence. “Solo travel can allow you to just…be,” she says. It’s an authenticity that resonates deeply, inviting audiences to reflect on their own quests and the ways they can embrace peace in their lives.

Ross isn’t just traveling independently; and the show isn’t just a TV program. She’s leading a movement toward self-empowerment. It beckons each of us to pack our bags—both literally and metaphorically—and take off on the escapades that wait just outside our safe spaces with open hearts and eager spirits.

So, as we tune in to this dazzling (and oh so stylish!) exploration of the world through the eyes of a woman who embodies genuine joy, each of us should remember: your story is uniquely yours. Whether it’s a trip around the globe or a walk in your local park, every experience is an opportunity to discover more about who you are.

“I hope this show reminds people that they too can courageously live their lives on their own terms, find their happiness, and be their whole selves and their best selves – by themselves, she says. “Everyone deserves to be joyous and audaciously free.”
