President-elect Donald Trump has been reelected to the White House, defeating Vice President Kamala four years after losing the 2020 election.
The Republican candidate secured at least the 270 Electoral College votes needed to return.
“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected the 47th president,” Trump said in his victory speech. “And every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future. Every single day. I will be fighting for you. And with every breath in my body, I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve.”
During his campaign, Trump vowed his administration would tackle immigration and inflation and would give law enforcement immunity. He also proclaimed that he would continue his “America First” foreign policy, which saw him retreat from several significant international agreements throughout his first term, and asserted he would end Russia’s war against Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office while simultaneously bringing peace to the Middle East.
Harris did not give a concession speech Tuesday night.
“We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet. We will continue, overnight, to fight to make sure that every vote is counted, that every voice has spoken,” her campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said. “So you won’t hear from the vice president tonight, but you will hear from her tomorrow.”
Trump is a convicted felon who is awaiting sentencing in his hush-money case in New York and has been stalling other federal cases which now will likely disappear once he is officially in office.
