Former Vice President Kamala Harris broke her silence on the repercussions from President Donald Trump’s catastrophic second term in the White House during a surprise visit to the Leading Women Defined Summit in California.
“There were many things that we knew would happen, many things,” Harris told the audience. “I’m not here to say, ‘I told you so,'” she said to the cheering crowd. “I swore I wasn’t going to say that.”
During Harris’ presidential run, her strategies were often dismissed by the far-right, and she was even labeled as a “communist.”
Harris laid out a solid game plan that tackled grocery price gouging, aimed to make housing affordable, would have slashed healthcare costs, and rolled back Trump-era tax cuts that mostly padded the pockets of corporations and the wealthy—according to economists.
“We will create what I call an opportunity economy,” Harris said while accepting the Democratic nomination for President. “An opportunity economy where everyone has a chance to compete and a chance to succeed.”
Trump has shamelessly admitted that his promise to lower groceries for American families from “day one,” was the pledge which got him elected, but since he has taken office, grocery prices have skyrocketed.
To make matters worse, the Trump-Musk alliance is gutting the federal workforce, and the newly minted Department of Government Efficiency has stripped entire agencies to the bone.

Over 280,000 public sector jobs have vanished, with March alone marking one of the most significant federal layoffs in U.S. history, with 6,000 veterans losing their government jobs in the latest wave. Trump’s administration rolled back climate protections, scrapped neutrality, quietly upgraded surveillance and weakened global alliances weakened. His announcement of more sweeping global tariffs crashed markets, wiping $2.5 trillion off the boards as the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted over 1,600 points, marking its worst day since 2020.
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq also suffered significant Trump’s, with the latter dropping nearly 6%. These tariffs, ranging from 10% to 50%, have strained international relations and erased approximately $2.5 trillion from Wall Street. The fallout has been so great that Trump informed his inner circle this week that Musk will be stepping back in the coming weeks from his DOGE role but will remain a “close advisor” to the president and a friend. The news comes on the heels of Judge Susan Crawford beating out Judge Brad Schimel, securing a 4–3 liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Some Republicans lay the blame at Musk’s feet as the billionaire tech founder tried to intervene but his heavy-handed spending ($25 million) backing Schimel “insulted” voters.
During her rousing speech, Harris turned her attentions to the many organizations who have remained silent as Trump’s administration continues to ravage America.
“There is a sense of fear that has been taking hold in our country. And I understand it. But we’re saying people stay quiet. That’s why we are seeing organizations stay quiet,” she declared. “We are seeing those who are capitulating to clearly unconstitutional threats. And these are the things that we are witnessing each day in these last few months in our country. And it understandably creates a great sense of fear.”
Meanwhile, Trump remains in denial.
