Congressional Black Caucus Urges Haitian Americans to Vote As Trump Continues Spreading False Narrative

The Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee recently launched a new advertising campaign dedicated to calling Haitian Americans to take action and vote in the November elections as Donald Trump continues to spread false conspiracy theories about the community.

Announced on Monday, the campaign, reported to amount to five figures, urges Haitian Americans in New York’s 4th Congressional District specifically to use their voting power this November. Titled “Unity,” it features a Haitian American woman as the narrator and includes video footage of false statements Trump has made, including the repetition of lies accusing Haitians of consuming pets in Springfield, Ohio.

The launch of the ads comes as Trump continues his New York campaign.

The 4th Congressional District is often considered a battleground district, with Democrats aiming to gain control and take the majority of the House.

“Every day between now and Election Day, Haitian Americans are going to hear a message of unity from the party of progress, inclusion, and the American dream — that is the Democratic Party,” said chairman of the CBC PAC, Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., per NBC News. “While Republicans seek to divide our communities by creating wild conspiracies and disrespecting our cultures, Democrats are working hard to make the American dream possible for all.”

The launch of the ads come as polls show that the race for November is still deadlocked.

In a series of polls conducted by the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and Siena College, researchers found that although 60% of the participants view Vice President Kamala Harris as the debate winner, the race still does not favor one clear winner.

Both Harris and Trump are tied at 47% nationwide. In Pennsylvania, Harris showed improvements in support, taking the lead 50% to 46%. The state has been considered a key battleground state that’s been highly contested for the last two elections. Historically, Pennsylvania has voted Republican more so than Democratic.

Following the debate, polls showed that Pennsylvania residents were more likely to use the word “intelligent” when describing Harris rather than Trump, widening the gap to 18% from 10%.

Black voters are also strengthening her claim on the state, making up nearly 90% of her support in the state. The latest results show that she is now close to matching the amount of support President Biden received to win the election in 2020.

Overall, Harris has made improvements among most college-educated voters, while Trump’s support from college-educated white voters in the suburbs sinks to 36%.
