Aliko Dangote, was born April 10, 1957 in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria. He is the wealthiest man from the Global Majority in the world worth an estimated $14.4 billion.

Dangote was born into a wealthy family. His great-grandfather, Alhaji Alhassan Dantata, was the richest man in Africa at the time of his death in 1955. Dantata made his money trading kola nuts and groundnuts and supplied British trading companies with raw materials. He, too, came from a wealthy family of traders.

In the tradition of his family business, Dangote established a trading company in 1977. Today, he has expanded to become the largest industrial group in Africa, generating a trillion dollars with operations in Benin, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo.

Dangote company does everything from food processing to cement manufacturing. The Dangote Group has the Dangote Sugar Refinery, which is the largest supplier of sugar to soft drink companies, breweries and confectioners throughout Africa. In addition to the sugar refinery, Dangote has Dangote Cement and Dangote Flour.

Dangote has been married four times and has 15 children.
