    Ricky Williams Sort of Changes His Name to Strengthen Marriage

    Ricky Williams has always marched to the beat of his own drum.

    The talented running back from the University of Texas was a two-time All-American, won the Heisman Trophy in 1998 and was the fifth overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

    When you said Ricky in football during that time, most immediately knew who you were referring to.

    Turns out that wasn’t his given name.

    In a recent interview on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, Williams disclosed his birth name was actually Errick but that he always went by Ricky.

    And the 45-year-old former running back only publicly disclosed that information after, according to CBS Sports, an interviewer noticed his Zoom name.

    So the real change occurred with his last name, which is now Miron, the last name of his wife, Linnea.

    “Something I’ve been thinking about and talking about, and I finally went through the steps,” said Williams during the interview “It was quick and easy, and it felt really meaningful.” 

    He informed the group that he legally changed his name over a year ago, but no one knew about it until very recently.
