Nate Burleson Becomes ‘Co-Host of CBS This Morning’

We’ve seen former athletes head to broadcasting as the next step in their careers. The majority of the time it’s in the sport they once played. But today Nate Burleson took a major step outside of the NFL realm and was named as co-host of CBS This Morning.

Stephen Battaglio of the LA Times broke the news and Burleson announced it earlier this morning on Good Morning Football.

“Right now I’m announcing that I will be joining CBS This Morning as a host,” said Burleson this morning.

Burleson, 39, is a busy man on television.

He’s currently a studio analyst for CBS Sports’ pregame show NFL Today, a co-host of the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, and the New York correspondent for Extra. Prior to broadcasting, he played in the NFL for 11 seasons with Minnesota, Seattle, and Detroit.

Burleson will co-host CBS’ morning show with Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil starting next month when the show moves into its new studio in Times Square in New York City. He replaces Anthony Mason, who’s shifting over to culture coverage for the network’s on-air programming and digital platforms.

Nate follows in the path carved out by former Giants’ star and pro football Hall of Famer, Michael Strahan. Strahan went from sacking QBs to hosting jobs on Live with Kelly and Michael, various game shows, FOX NFL Sunday, and Good Morning America.
