Could Michael Blackson Be the Next President of Ghana?

American Ghanaian comedian Michael Blackson has announced his intentions to run for president in his home country, Ghana.

Blackson announced the news on Twitter.

“I’m going to clean up my act and run for president of Ghana in 4 yrs. No joke I’m too passionate about my people. Who will vote for me? Let me know now so I won’t waste my time,” he tweeted.

Blackson is known for being a prankster. He has flipped it into an legitimate career. However, several news platforms on the continent are taking his announcement seriously, as did more than a few of his fans.

“They gonna do you like our dear brother & Malcom X, save your time & energy bro. This world doesn’t appreciate the heroic effort, of real African leaders now,” one of Blackson’s followers wrote in response.

“I think it is a lot to want to try but if you put in the work and make an impact before just going to take the steps, you may just make it happen. I believe if GUM party made an impact you can learn from there and the youth are really open minded now,” another fan advised Blackson.

If he did decide to run for office in Ghana, he would be up against President Nana Akufo-Addo. Akufo Addo has earned global praise for his efforts to boost Ghana’s economy.

Nana Akufo Addo, President of Ghana, shuts down Swiss President, saying that Ghana (Switzerland's biggest trade partner in Sub Saharan Africa and the world's 2nd largest exporter of cocoa) will no longer export raw cocoa to Switzerland.

Last month, he went viral after he shut down Swiss President Simonetta Sommaruga during a state visit to Bern, saying that Ghana would no longer export cocoa to Switzerland.

“There can be no future prosperity for the Ghanaian people in the short, medium, or long term if we continue to maintain economic structures that are dependent on the production and export of raw materials,” he said.

Ghana is Africa’s second-biggest producer of gold and the second-largest producer of cocoa. The country is also rich in diamonds and oil.

If Blackson decides to run, it will be no cakewalk.

And as for cleaning up his act… this was the comedian’s most recent post to Twitter.
