President Barack Obama Had A Hand In Its Formation
According to Silver, Pres. Obama was very hands-on when it came to the creation of the league, but the exact details of how Obama made it all happen have not yet been made available to the public.
In February 2019, Silver said that the former president of the United States would be “directly involved with these activities in Africa.”
“I’ve always loved basketball because it’s about building a team that’s equal to more than the sum of its parts. Glad to see this expansion into Africa because for a rising continent, this can be about a lot more than what happens on the court,” Obama tweeted following the announcement.
